The Great Outdoors

hike 1 hike 2We took Franklin on quite a lovely hike through the woods two weekends ago. The weather this spring has been touch-and-go, but we found a lovely day, just windy enough, to go hiking in the wilderness of Bloomington! It was an hour and a half of heavenly, earthy bliss!! =)

Outfit Post

Mitch & I had a spectacular date night last night! I wore my pretty floral dress with my big belt and purple tights. I felt like such a cutesie lady! We went to Domo [a hibachi grill] to get some steak/iron in me, anemia be damned! =) We were the only people at our table, which made it extra fun. We made friends with the cook & had a really great time. The date ended with reading some Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire while cuddled up in our pajamas! Perfect date night.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE LOVE OF MY LIFE

DSC_1868Happy Birthday to my Mitchel! He turns 29 years old today… so close to the big 3-0!!!! =) I am so blessed to have him in my life. He is an incredibly intelligent, incredibly driven man and he makes everything in my life better. Couldn’t do it without you, love. Here’s to another year older and hopefully another year wiser. ;)

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Awkward:
-How long it’s been since we’ve washed our bedsheets! Icky! We’ve gotta make a big run to the laundromat this week!
-Franklin being exceptionally smelly the other day! Boston terrier farts are the worst.

Awesome:
-Sleeping owls. Aren’t they adorbs?!
-Watching The Walking Dead season 2 on Netflix! It’s sickeningly well-written and acted!
-Crocheting! My bobble blanket is coming along soooo nicely. I’m actually quite proud of it!
-Finishing ‘Life of Pi’ the novel with Mitchel! We read aloud to each other every night… it’s super romantic! And now we start on the Harry Potter series, since he’s never read it before!!

Fall Hiking Trip

We took Franklin on a really wonderful and relaxing walk last Saturday! He really needed a nice, loooooooong walk… and Mitch, Mary, and I took the opportunity to be out in this lovely fall weather!

Franklin was loving the water [a first]!

It was great to be out in nature instead of stuck inside the apartment reading [although, Lord knows, I love that, too]! I love when we get in some “family time” with our baby boy Franklin!

I wish I could fully put into words everything I felt during the show and tour. I was so overwhelmed by the emotions running through my body, especially when the performers were on stage. It is a lasting memory of mine that I’m sure my grandchildren will hear all about!!! I love you, Grand Ole Opry!!!

Nashville Trip Pt1

So as most of you know, Mitchel bought us tickets to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee for our One Year Anniversary! We went this past weekend and it was an absolute blast!! This is just part one of our trip! The part without the Grand Ole Opry in it, but don’t you fret!! I’ll be posting Pt 2 of our trip tomorrow!!! =)

The Nashville Farmer’s Market was really beautiful! And I enjoyed snapping some shots! Then we grabbed our San Pellegrino and headed to the Bicentennial Park…

What a beautiful spot so rich in Tennessee history!! After that we headed to the Centennial park [I know. haha] to catch a glimpse of a full-size replica of the Parthenon in Greece.

We also enjoyed a bit of Music Row, where this was the ONE photo I snapped:

Pittsburgh Trip

A collective sigh issues from every fiber of my being just LOOKING at this photo.
Pittsburgh, PA.
It’s been the only static home in my life, being an Army brat will do that to you.
My grandparents all lived around the city… it is one of my happy places.
I bleed black and gold [Steelers, baby]!
That’s why I was absolutely smitten with getting the opportunity to go home to visit my family up there and celebrate my grandfather’s 80th birthday!!

This photo of my grandfather with my second cousin Elise just melts my heart. Not only is it touching that I got to meet her and hopefully will be a part of her life [cousins don't generally get to stay that in touch], but my grandfather is her great-grandfather and she has such a great relationship with him.
It’s incredibly touching, & I’m a sap, so I love it.

We started with a lunch out on the town with the family! Photos above are of the entire Ruggles family in attendance, my family with Pap, & the cousins with Pap!

After the restaurant we all went back to Pap’s house to celebrate with a cook out. I was so overwhelmed with the opportunity to spend time with my extended family. They really are the greatest people. I love each of them so much… I can’t stand that we don’t see each other that much!

The next day we spent some time walking around the city (& riding on the INCLINE!!!) and then enjoying the last few hours with my grandfather before the drive home!

I really can’t ever fully express how much I appreciated the memories with my family & Mitchel [who is now as good as family]!! =) I love them all and can’t wait to see everyone again!!

One Year

Today marks the One Year Anniversary of our first date!! I know that to most people that doesn’t sound like a great feat, but to me it is. I usually get bored or tired of other people and their baggage and drama before reaching the one year mark. I’ve never made it this far with ANYONE. And it’s all because I was waiting for my best friend. Getting to share this with Mitchel is something I hold very near and dear to my heart.

I am the luckiest girl alive and I’m so happy that I get to share my life and adventures with a man who supports me and loves me to the fullest. You are already a part of my family and I can’t wait to see where this year takes us. I love you, Mitchel, more than words can ever truly express. You are my partner in crime, my confidante, my biggest supporter, and the only person I want to spend the rest of my days with.

Chicago Trip

Day 1: Pitchfork Festival at Union Park in Chicago, IL

We spent a rockin’ day listening to bands and foraging through the muddy fields to the separate stages!! I felt like I lost AT LEAST 5 lbs that day due to the amount of water leaving my body via sweat the entire day!! That might be a little TMI… Overall, my favorite bands of the day were Hot Chip, Grimes, and The Chromatics!

Day 2: Navy Pier & Millennium Park

On Day 2 we went to Navy Pier to explore, ended up watching the World Class Sailing Race… the FIRST EVER in the United States. What a lucky day!! We stood and watched the race before continuing on to the magical bean of Chicago [aka: Cloud Gate]. We took so many photos with our disposable cameras this day. It was really just a full day of walking too much and exploring the Windy City. My favorite part was riding the swings right before we headed back to the hotel for the evening!! So many incredible memories with my love.

Day 3: Driving home

Day 3 we explored the mall in Schaumburg, where I almost fainted at the site of Sanrio [the company that designed Hello Kitty]!! I promptly ushered Mitchel into the shop and giggled as I remembered walking through a similar one back in Mililani, Hawaii with my besties. They didn’t have a lot of the characters I love, but I did snatch up a Chococat iPhone case!! And then, we sadly started the 5 hour trek back to Indiana. We were sad to leave, but so happy to be back home.

I ALMOST FORGOT!!! We found an IKEA in Schaumburg!!!!! =) I had my first trip EVER to the glorious shop and found all sorts of fantastic and affordable things for our new apartment. We move in 3 weeks, by the way!!! Can’t wait to show off all my IKEA goodies to ya’ll when we’re settled in the new place…

And so ends another adventure of Sarah & Mitchel!
Xoxo, Sarah
